The Blog That Ate Manhattan

The Blog That Ate Manhattan

I’ve been meaning to tell this story for months now, but business got in the way. I’m still swamped selling real estate, but I made some time this morning to finally get the story told.

I’ve added a link to my blogroll and it merits a story of its own. The link is to a “sister” site, “The Blog That Ate Manhattan.” It’s a witty, informative and authoritative site.

The blog belongs to Dr. Margaret Polaneczky. Yeah, you might be thinking “hey, a Realtor has time to waste spend on a blog. but shouldn’t a doctor be busy saving lives?” If so, you’re not getting this blogging thing. It gets under your skin and you make time for it, regardless of what else is going on in your life.

Anyway, back to Dr. Peggy. This is her own “about me:” “I practice medicine, cook and wax prolific in NYC.You can call me Peggy. Or Dr P. Just don’t call me late for dinner.” Aha moment. I could really like this woman!

But there’s more to the story than just a catchy blog name ::grin:: and a talented writer. I have to fill in with a little history.

Several years back, when I created my own blog, I took to referring to it as TBTAM. It made sense. The Blog That Ate Miami was too long to write when I was making notes. So I used the acronym instead. TBTAM it was. TBTAM this. TBTAM that. All along there was a mental note to self: purchase Except I was busy and put it off. Who the heck would buy such an obscure domain name anyway?

Well, a few months back I finally sauntered over to GoDaddy, got my Platinum PayPal ready and asked for my domain. Wait. What is this? It’s ::gasp:: taken? By whom? Who on earth would want this jumble of letters that means nothing except to me?

I clicked on it and was dumbstruck at what I found. The name had been purchased 2 days before. I had been putting it off for years and someone had beat me to it by 48 hours. Oh the disbelief!

But wait…it gets better. I looked at the registrar’s name and my jaw dropped. I actually knew this person.  I had worked with him years ago in another life when I worked in the medical field. What were the odds?

I took the opportunity to drop him a note, say hello, remember some of the many blessings he’s been part of (he’s a high risk pregnancy specialist and a SuperDoctor) and congratulate him on not being a procrastinator. He explained that he had purchased the domain as a gift for Dr. Peggy and I soon received a very nice email from the good doctor Peggy herself.  She was almost apologetic.  She had something I wanted and was apologizing for it.  Dr. Peggy, don’t feel bad.  You got the domain fair and square.  Besides, there’s always ::smile::  Not quite the same, but acceptable.

So get on over to Dr. Peggy’s blog and look around.  It’s a great read.  Not only can you read Dr. Peggy’s opinions on various medical and social issues, there’s a recipe for corn muffins.  That’s speaking my language.  =)
