    Day 21 – Hug a Baby $

MCHDid you know that there are hospital volunteers whose job it is to sit and hold a baby?  The power of touch is amazing.  At Miami Children’s Hospital, this isn’t overlooked.

But if you think babies are too delicate for you, there are so many other ways you can help out as a Miami Children’s Hospital volunteer.  Take a cart filled with activities around to the outpatients kids; support patients (training provided); support the great nursing staff; encourage kids in the play areas; help out at the gift shop.  There are so many ways that your time can be put to good use at Miami Children’s Hospital.  Get in touch with them today!

    Day 20 – Raise a Hammer $

habitat for humanityIn continuing the “do unto others” theme of the week, here’s today’s idea.  A very worthwhile cause is Habitat for HumanityHabitat for Humanity seeks to help people and families change their lives by providing safe, simple and affordable housing.

Like all non-profits, you can help Habitat by making donations.  But you can also volunteer your time to help build the homes.  Anyone can volunteer at Habitat for Humanity.  You don’t need to be a contractor or even physically able to jump on the roof and lay shingles!  You can paint, you can hammer, you can move materials.  Have an eye for detail?  You can paint the trimwork!  Or you can make sandwiches and help feed the crew.  Any way you can help is deeply appreciated.

Get in touch with Miami’s Habitat for Humanity and find out how you can help change the lives of a Miami family.

    Day 19 – Pass it On $

Feeding the hungry in MiamiPass what on?  Some of the abundance you have going on in your life.  I think this week calls for Things To Do In Miami that involve giving back to the community and those less fortunate.  You may even enjoy yourself while doing it and keep it up.

Pass It On Ministries has been helping the hungry in South Florida since 1985.  It should be noted that over half of those helped are children.  There’s something wrong with someone going to bed hungry when there is so much to go around.  When it’s a child, even more so.

And they don’t just give the man a fish, they hook him up with a fishing rod for the future.

So contact them and drop off some non-perishables.  And if things are tight right now, give them your time.  All of their foods are collected, sorted and distributed by volunteers.

    Day 17 – ANYTHING Outdoors $

Enjoy the OutdoorsYou may think this a cop out, but the day is too gorgeous to not take advantage of.  So-o-o-o-o, today’s thing to do is ANYTHING which gets you outdoors

It is a mild 70 degrees in Miami right now.  In contrast, it is a chilly 35 degrees in Jackson Heights, NY; 41 degrees in Chicago and 30 in Saskatchewan.  Yikes!  Just typing that makes me shiver-r-r-r.

Here’s a link to the county’s park directory so you can visit a park if your lawn is not too appealing.
